Geocache Description:

A walk up to the second lookout point on the Mt Te Kinga track, giving a vista of Lake Brunner and surrounds.

The start of the track is located at S 42° 36.906 E 171° 30.088, which is also the co-ordinates of Sheryl's Cache. (visit link)

The walk will take approximately two hours, return, depending on fitness levels. The track is well formed, but likely to be muddy in places, and there will be roots, and possibly trees to navigate around. The track climbs steadily to around 300m at the cache site. The cache is located at the second lookout, which is identified by the DoC sign indicating the track up to the summit.

The adventurous, fit and experienced hikers, can continue on from here to the summit of Mt Te Kinga, at just over 1200m. The sign posted time for the full hike is 8 hours, return. The views from the top are stunning, looking out over Lake Brunner, and beyond to the sea, and down to the Southern Alps in behind.

There is likely to be limited GPS coverage at the cache site, although at the lookout point, you are likely to get a signal. From this point you are within 10m of the cache.
