Geocache Description:

A quick drive by cache

The Shepherd's Lane Cairn sits in a quiet lane between Halfway and Blantyre. It was vandalised shortly after it was officially unveiled in June 2006.

But now, thanks to the efforts of the council's Pride of Place (PoP) team, the cairn has been fully restored and to commemorate this, members of the British Legion were joined by Depute Provost Russell Clearie at a special ceremony.

The significance of Shepherd's Lane dates back to World War I when it acted as a starting point for Scottish soldiers during their long journey to the front line. This continued during World War II, with recruits being marched through the gates of the army camp at Dechmont Rifle Ranges before boarding the waiting troop trains at Newton Station.

You will need to take a pen/pencil with you.
