This cache was created to recognize two of our relatives and
"forging fires": Dad, who passed away in 1998, shortly after his
granddaughter (and Team member) PHS was born but before his
granddaugher (and Team member) EWS was born; and our Aunt Joan, who
passed away a few years prior.
From Dad, who was part Cherokee, Mom Nightjar got her love of
the outdoors and her sassiness. From her Aunt Joan, Mom Nightjar
got her love of antiques ... and even more sassiness.
They were wonderful, special people and we miss them
terribly.
The idea for this cache came from PHS (age 9) as a way to honor
them.
SPECIAL REQUEST:
To reach the final stage of this MULTI, you will first need to
visit two graves.
We ask that, when you do, you leave a small stone on top of each
their headstones as a sign that you were there.
FIRST STAGE:
The posted coordinates take you to the first stage.
When you get there, take note of the COMPLETE BIRTH DATE of the
decedent.
SECOND STAGE:
To get to the second stage, you'll need to compute the following
formula:
To calculate the Stage 2 "N" coord: Take the last 3 decimals of
the posted "N" coord, SUBTRACT the two-digit BIRTH MONTH from Stage
1, then SUBTRACT the one-digit BIRTH DATE from Stage 1, then ADD
8.
To calculate the Stage 2 "W" coord: Take the last 3 decimals of
the posted "W" coord, ADD THE SUM OF THE DIGITS from the BIRTH YEAR
(for example, if the birth year was 1964, you'd add "1+9+6+4"),
then SUBTRACT 9.
When you find the second stage, take note of the BIRTH YEAR of
the decedent.
THIRD (FINAL) STAGE:
To get to the third (final) stage, you'll need to compute the
following formula:
To calculate the Stage 3 "N" coord: MULTIPLY the BIRTH YEAR you
found in Stage 2 by a factor of *3*, ADD 750, then ADD this total
to the last *5* digits of the Stage 2 "N" coord (i.e., the 2 digits
before the decimal and 3 digits after).
To calculate the Stage 3 "W" coord: Take the last *5* digits of
the Stage 2 "W" coord, then SUBTRACT the BIRTH YEAR you found in
Stage 2, then subtract 1039.
FINAL NOTE: Team Nightjar operates out of
Baltimore, MD. While several of Team Nightjar's family members are
available locally to Liberty Township to help maintain this cache
(and while we come out to visit once or twice per year), if there
is a "local" cacher who is willing to assist if necessary, please
contact us!
FTF: SPECIAL FTF CONGRATS (AND THANKS) go out to Goltzene! Even
though we triple checked the coords and math before we posted, it's
nice to know that it actually worked.
