Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates are the beginning of the Heritage Mile. Take a stroll along Broadmoor Blvd and discover some of Strathcona’s heritage. Locate the brass plaques at each local. Substitute the correct number you found on the plaques for the letter in the following waypoint to find the cache. N53 3A.BCD W113 1E.FGH

A parking waypoint has been provided for your 1st stop, accessible from the northbound lane only. There are several parking spots along the way but it is up to you to find them if you decide not to walk.

Smeltzer House

Back track a little ways south after parking your vehicle. Locate the plaque/rock within a few meters of the sidewalk near the garden entrance. (Hint, 90 meters from parking) On this plaque you will find a year that Frank moved out of the house xxxD. Substitute the number for D

Legacy Median Trees

Head north. Locate the large rock just past the driveway next to the sidewalk. (Hint, 26 meters from parking) To solve for E, find the date on the plaque that reads August xE, xxxx. Substitute the number for E.

Lendrum Sisters

Continue north. You should be able to spot the sisters in the distance as you pass Village Drive. They are not listed on the Heritage mile but make an interesting stop. Plus they hold required information. (Hint, 839 meters from parking) Near the Sculpture of the sisters you will find a stone holding a few brass plaques. On the one that lists the names of the sisters you will also find a date September xF. Substitute the number for F.

Ottewell Center

Continue walking up Broadmoor Drive. You should be facing Ottewell Center when you cross to the west side of the street at the next available crosswalk. Walk up the drive and head toward the house. (Hint, 1.043 km from parking) Locate the plaque titled Ottewell House and find the year. Now substitute the number in the year in the position of the letter. xxxA

Salisbury United Church

Walk back to the east side of the street and continue uo Broodmoor Drive. Locate the plaque next to the sidewalk close to the intersection in front of the church. (Hint, 1.31 km) On it you will find a year in which the building was moved to the present site. Substitute the number for the letter in the year. xxxC

Monument Park

This one is located a short distance west from the northwest corner of the Broadmoor Drive/ Athabascan Ave intersection. (Hint, 1.55 km from parking) Find the plaque titled Ronald J. Boisvert. Read through the sentence”…Western Canada families which now number over Bxx. Substitute the number for the letter.

Lord Strathcona

The statue should be easy to spot as you walk north from the Monument Park. Visit Lord Strathcona and locate the plaque, below the one on how Strathcona got its name. (Hint, 1.63 km from parking) In the last sentence there is a three digit number. Take that number and divide by 50. Substitute that number for H.

Smyth Farm

This plaque could be tricky to spot in the winter so pay attention to your “ distance from parking waypoint” as you walk along the chain link fence.(Hint 1.69 km from parking) Locate and read the plaque. Take the number of acres referred to and divide by two to solve for G.

Now do your calculations and go find the cache.
