The Bridge
Eagle Projects usually include much time spent in planning,
contacting involved organizations, obtaining authorization,
organizing the Scouts and community volunteers, supervising the
project and following through with any final details. This
Eagle Project, completed by a Boy Scout from Troop 104, is an
excellent example.
The Project was completed with the authorization of the Regional
Parks in Sonoma County. The Boy Scouts and volunteers built a
bridge in a location where two existing trails passed close to each
other. Hikers, cyclists and equestrians were causing erosion
problems while crossing at a location where there was no existing
trail, including a low point in the watershed area.
The bridge was built to specifications that would make it
passable for horses as well as hikers and cyclists. The Boy
Scout found a local lumberyard that was willing to donate the wood
for the project.
Helen Putnam Regional Park is a wonderful park
for hiking, picnics and great views. For more information, see
