Geocache Description:

There is a good walk involved in this cache, but it can be linked with a number of other caches on the Lunga Estate, including the 'Castle of the Ravens' and the Barr Mhor Trigpoint.

THIS CACHE CONTAINS PART 2. OF THE LAIRD'S CHALLENGE.

Bagh Dail nan Ceann cairns.

Bagh Dail nan Ceann: Bay of the field of Heads.

There are two cairns situated close together which are said to mark the site of a battle between the Vikings and the Scots, which took place here at some unknown date.

Local tales would have it that the Vikings came to attack the Craignish Peninsula and where fended off by the MacDougall's of the near-by 'Castle of the Ravens'. The battle was said to be so violent that afterwards the field lay full of the heads of the viking attackers, and thus the bay it got its name "Bagh Dail nan Ceann: Bay of the field of Heads". The cairns are rumoured to be the graves of MacDougall clansmen who fell during the battle.
