If you don’t like micros, multis, mystery caches and museums,
then it would be better for you to pick an alternative challenge
today.
The coordinates above are for the High Wood Barn Visitor Centre
& Café at Itchen Valley Country
Park. Opening times vary as per website link. There is plenty
of parking – charges do apply all year round. Wellies are advised
in Winter.
To get the coordinates of this Itchen Puzzle cache, you
will need to visit the following three other caches in South
Hampshire:
- Museum Micro #1 (Fareham) – GC10D05
- Wheely Tricky #1 – GC10D12
- Wheely Tricky #2 – GC10D19
Each of these can be logged in their own right, visited in any
order, but all will be needed to find Itchen Puzzle.
Once you have all the clues, you can do this cache in under an
hour but we’d like to encourage you to stay longer to make full use
of the facilities offered at the park. For example, the kids may
enjoy the brass rubbing trail or decoding the Olly Owl trail. When
you’ve done the cache, don’t forget to check out the adventure play
area at N50 56.700 W001 20.621
Now that you’re at Itchen Valley Country Park, you need to find
a micro placed at N50 56.WX W001 20.8Z
where:
- the single digit W comes from Museum Micro #1 (Fareham)
- the double digit X comes from Wheely Tricky #1
- the double digit Z comes from Wheely Tricky #2
Start from the High Wood Barn Visitor Centre & Café and
follow the Woods & Meadows Walk. You’ll then be on the right
path to find a micro which contains the final cache coordinates.
There are "kissing" gates which were passable with our single seat
three-wheeler off-road buggy, and there is one road to cross which
is well signposted.
Once you find the micro, continue following the Woods &
Meadows Walk. It is not necessary to go off the paths and into the
woods or to climb any fences or other obstacles.
The initial contents of the cache (which is a large brown ammo
box with a geocaching sticker on the side) includes some travel
games and puzzle books, plus the usual assortment of small
swaps.
