Located in Locust Shade Park between Rt.1 and 95, and the front and rear gates of Quantico Marine Corps Base.
After entering Locust Shade, park in the lot designated for the Marigold and Goldenrod Pavilions on the left. Follow the trail.
Locust Shade Park was originally government land. It was donated to Prince William County through the Federal Lands to Parks Program, which assists US communities to obtain surplus federal land, usually at no cost, for public park and recreation purposes.
This is a wonderful little-known park with four hundred acres of outdoor fun, including batting cages, mini-golf, driving range, playgrounds, tennis courts, hiking trails, picnic pavilions, a sand volleyball court, and a 500 seat amphitheater. An "Urban Fishing Program" site, the eight acre pond is stocked regularly with trout and catfish. You can also tour the pond on pedal boats from May through September.
It's just too nice of a park to have only one cache, so here's another for your enjoyment. The trail to this cache was a bit slippery when I placed it, as it is covered in leaves. Cache is not too far off the trail, and can be reached with very little bushwacking.
As far as limbos go, this one's easy, but please don't feel you need to lower the bar for the next cacher. Cache container provided courtesy of "the girls and I". Please cover it well when you're done. Experienced cachers, I would appreciate your thoughts as to whether this cache will survive summer muggle traffic.
