New York Admin:
The placement of this cache was approved on January 22 2007 by Chenango Valley State Park Manager John Michalski (607-648-5251) via cache permit CV-3-07.
This cache does have a current Permit for the Placement and Maintenance of Geocache issued by Chenango Valley State Park Manager. However if the area of the cache is being damaged as a result of over aggressive searching the cache should be quickly archived to prevent further damage.

At the park managers request I am archiving this cache.

Geocache Description:

This cache introduces you to one of the more remote, heavily wooded areas of Chenango Valley State Park  -  the Marshman Trail.   This trail is rated medium - difficult, and it is one of many in the park that the GeoChicks enjoy mountain biking and skiing.  Depending upon how you approach the cache, it can be a significant hike, ski or bike (or not!).  I encourage you to bring your mountain bike or skis along, and take the long way to this cache - this part of the park is especially beautiful.    Here is a link to a park map (click here), or a larger version can be picked up at the park office just past the entrance to the park .

The cache is a decon container, and it is only for swapping geocaching buttons.   There are four geocaching buttons to start - one for each of the hosts of the January 28, 2007 CVSP Winter Geocachers Gathering -  Team Aegis and Snail84 (GeoChicks), CrazyKosix, and Spider99.  Bring your own pen, and enjoy! Please close the cache lid tightly so it stays dry inside.

Chenango Valley State Park is an ice age wonder. Its two kettle lakes, Lily and Chenango, were created when the last glacier retreated and left behind huge chunks of buried ice which melted to form the lakes and bog (or is it?). Birdwatchers may glimpse woodpeckers, nut hatches, warblers and thrushes along woodland trails and herons, ducks and kingfishers lakeside. Fishermen will find trout, bass, perch and bullhead in Chenango Lake. Campers can choose from among 216 campsites and 24 cabins and golfers will appreciate the 18-hole golf course. Ice skating, sledding and cross-country ski trails attract visitors in winter.During the late spring, summer, and early fall there is an admission charge to the park (unless you walk or ride your bike in !)  There are snacks available at the golf course and swimming area in-season.   For more information about Chenango Valley State Park, click here.
