Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in James Baird State Park located along the Taconic State Parkway in Lagrangeville, NY. The park is mostly known for its 18 hole golf course, but it has picnic grounds, tennis courts, and several miles of trails. The trails are well maintained year round as they are designed not only for hiking, but also mountain bikes, x-country skiiing and snow shoeing when old man winter decides to pay a visit. The park is open from sunrise to sunset 12 months a year. Pets are allowed on leashes. There is easy access from the Taconic State Parkway in both directions and from Freedom Road for those with commercial plates. (Not allowed on the Taconic) This entrance is marked with a small sign for trucks and buses, but cars are permitted to use this entrance also.

I have placed three different types of caches in this park so you can enjoy the trails. This is a three stage multi cache located on the RED trail. Please do NOT park along the roads in the park. Best parking for all three caches is at: N41* 41.489 W073*47.481. The first two stages are cammoed 35mm film canisters and the final is a 30cal. ammo can. All 3 stages of this cache are winter friendly. You should be able to do them even with substantial snow on the ground.

The coordinates given will bring you to the first micro. There you will find coordinates for stage 2. Given the time of day and year, you may be able to spot and hear the sounds of my alma mater, Arlington High School to the southeast from the second stage. It is within 20' from the trail. You will go up a small hill to stage 2. There has been some bounce here, so I'll give a little more information. Do NOT go down the hill where you see the remains of a makeshift shelter, the stage is on top of the hill. From there, continue along the RED trail and it will make its way back towards the final. The final may seem a bit far away, but keep an eye on the GPSr as you will be passing close to another cache along the way. The final stage is within 20 feet of the trail. Please be sure to replace all of the stages back the way they were hidden..

If you plan on doing all 3 of my caches in this park, the best way to do them is: 1) Zilla’s Stomping Grounds, 2) Add 1 TSP of Cache, 3) Baird Blues, in that order for a nice 2.5-3 mile loop. The trails are wide and there are a few steep spots, but the hills are not very long.

The cache contains an unactivated, trackable FTF geocoin prize and a camera. Please take a picture when you’re logging your find and replace it in the cache so I can post the photos when it’s full. Other original contents of this cache: A Nascar car, glow bracelets, pet ID containers, one of my own geocoins, Godzilla TB starting his journey, a Green Jeep TB, and other swag..

This cache was placed with the permission of the park manager and was issued a NYS Parks Geocaching Permit. Please abide by the park rules so that all may enjoy these trails.
