Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in James Baird State Park located along the Taconic State Parkway in Lagrangeville, NY. The park is mostly known for its 18 hole golf course, but it has picnic grounds, tennis courts, and several miles of trails. The trails are well maintained year round as they are designed not only for hiking, but also mountain bikes, x-country skiiing and snow shoeing when old man winter decides to pay a visit. The park is open from sunrise to sunset 12 months a year. Pets are allowed on leashes. There is easy access from the Taconic State Parkway in both directions and from Freedom Road for those with commercial plates. (Not allowed on the Taconic) This entrance is marked with a small sign for trucks and buses, but cars are permitted to use this entrance also.

I have placed three different types of caches in this park so you can enjoy the trails. This was originally an offset cache located on the RED trail with the sounds of the TSP filling your ears. CACHE IS NOW AT THE GIVEN COORDINATES. The large tree trunk that stood there for years decided to fall a week after I placed this cache! I can't change the cache type, so go to the given coordinates and cache should be within 30 feet. Please do NOT park along the roads in the park. Best parking for all three caches is at: N41* 41.489 W073*47.481. Don’t leave the trail until you are very close to the coordinates given. The last leg is up hill just a bit. This cache is now very winter friendly. It could be spotted in several feet of snow. (hmmm, is that a hint?) Of course, hiking the trails in several feet of snow may prove difficult. Check the new hints to discover it's new hiding space. I tried to make all of the caches in this park winter friendly as many people still use these trails when the snow falls.

If you plan on doing all 3 of my caches in this park, the best way to do them is: 1) Zilla’s Stomping Grounds, 2) Add 1 TSP of Cache, 3) Baird Blues, in that order for a nice 2.5-3 mile loop. The trails are wide and there are a few steep spots, but the hills are not very long.

The cache contains a non-trackable FTF coin prize. Other original contents of this cache: A Glow in the dark Virtual Ghost pin, pet ID container, one of my own geocoins, and a travel bug.

This cache was placed with the permission of the park manager and was issued a NYS Parks Geocaching Permit. Please abide by the park rules so that all may enjoy these trails.
