Geocache Description:

This cache is located nearby the Lincoln Highway Marker, one of the last that mark the old road. You should be able to access it 24-7 and there is plenty of parking. In celebration of the OMC 100th, there are a few bones in the box. If you find one, you can bring the bone, yourself, and a motorcycle to the OMC club hall on Weds night at 8pm for our weekly meeting. See the bartender for a treat in trade for the bone. Do not take permanent picture booklet in the cache.

This geocache was created to help celebrate the Oakland Motorcycle Club’s 100th anniversary. The club was organized in 1907 and has functioned continually as the OMC ever since- even during the war years. Back in the good ‘ole days, the Lincoln Highway was America’s first interstate/transcontinental road that was monitored, marked and managed by the Lincoln Highway Association, which was organized in 1913. Except for a few toll areas, it was open to traffic without toll charges and supported by pledges from memberships, car companies and suppliers. The start was Times Square in New York City and the other end was San Francisco. In 1923, Boy Scouts across America placed 3,000 cement markers along the route to commemorate this romantic road. Few of them remain. In 1925, government entities started to change the path into US and interstate numbers, such as US 1, US 30, and US 40. This Geocache is located nearby one of the remaining markers. The marker location is the cross-street of San Pablo Avenue (old hwy 40) and Church Street. In 1910, the OMC organized a rally to Livermore, one of the largest and earliest motorcycle events in the US. Over 1,500 motorcycles took part in the rally, which included a race from the club hall on Broadway to the old Livermore flagpole.
