Geocache Description:

Determine coordinates and combination to a locked ammo box located near the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Less than a half mile hike to GZ from parking.

The Cache is not at the above coordinates. You will have to solve 2 puzzles to get the coordinates of a locked ammo box hidden with a view of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. You may email me and I will verify your answers if you wish, before setting out to find the cache. I will try to respond as soon as possible. A topo map or Google Earth will be helpful in determining parking which is within 1/2 mile from GZ. Be sensible when parking, please. Legal parking is available.

The Delaware Memorial Bridge is the Worlds Longest Twin Span Suspension Bridge in the world. We hope you enjoy solving these puzzles pertaining to facts about the bridge and its construction. Now on to the puzzles.

For the Coords solve for: N39 AB.CDE W075 FG.HIJ

Along with I-295 the Route # of the other road that crosses the river = AB
The day of the year in July of 1969 that the Regent Liverpool struck the bridge = C
The total number of traffic lanes on the bridges = D
Total number of cables of both bridges = E
Width of the roadway in feet of each span minus the diameter of each cable in inches = FG
Height of the towers above mean water level minus the # of hard earned bucks required to get back into DE = HIJ

Now solve for X, Y, Z to get the numbers of the combination to the ammo box. You will have to figure out the order on your own. Sorry, Deb made me do it.

In the year 2000 how many billion vehicles had crossed the bridges since their opening = X
Each cable of the bridge is composed of 19 strands and each strand is made up of 436 separate 3/Y" diameter steel wires.
The largest single weekend for traffic totals saw 194,199 vehicles cross the bridge one-way on July 24 - Z, 1998.

All answers can be found via the internet. Have fun and we hope you enjoy finding out a little more about the Twin Spans and finding this cache.

There is also a prize for FTF! Who will it be?

For those curious about the search area - this was the site of the old Lukins
farm, it's original owner (same family also owner of Lukins Steel) had
something to do with the Underground Railroad or Slavery in DE (I
forget which) The Courthouse in New Castle has some pictures & history of
the farm on display for it's presentation on DE slavery. When I was a
kid, my parents shot trap w/ the W.T.A. (Wilmington Trap Shooting
Association) and there were trap shooting ranges located on the farm in the
area I walked thru to get to the cache; that's what the lights were for.
Us kids used to play in the old buildings and at that time, there was a
house that the land caretaker lived in closer to where the Pencader
Business School is now. At some point the land was sold to become an
industrial park and the WTA moved the ranges down on to Rt 40 near the MD
line. Thanks to Tacklemom for this interesting history.
