Geocache Description:

This is our first ever cache. It's a multi-cache that will take you on a 4.5 km circular walk starting and finishing at an excellent country pub. There are a few stiles and kissing gates, so not suitable for buggies or wheel chairs. Recommended any time of year. We especially enjoy it on long summer evenings. The co-ordinates above do NOT give the location of the cache! NB Hide relocated due to muggles!

Well this walk may not have the beaches to rival “The Hamptons” on Long Island, the playground of wealthy New Yorkers, but the countryside has a beauty of its own – and the villages certainly provide weekend retreats for a number of British high achievers!

Start at: N 51º 53.927' W001° 56.965' which is the car park of "The Craven Arms" pub. If you use the car park here please make sure you stop for some refreshment. Here you must collect the following information:

1. Number of steps up from car park to lawn = a
2. Number of steps down to garden entrance = b
3. The century the pub dates from = cd
4. The number of green bottles in the end wall of the pub = ef (NB could be hidden when creeper in full leaf, but guess-able.  Or ask landlady.)

You must now navigate to Stop 1 (you set off down the footpath signed in front of the pub):

N 51º b (a-c).d (b-2) a ', W001° ((4xe)+1) ((4xf)-1) .(d-a) (1+c) (a+b) '

Here you will need to look for the following:

1. Year DPM born (campaigner, teacher and writer) = 192g
2. Number of pink granite objects in a row with connection to pub where you started = h
3. Number of objects in a row all relating to members of Combe family = i
4. Date Mary Ann Combe died = jk/m/1890

Answers are scattered in this vicinity.  This should enable you to find your way to Stop 2:

N 51º 53.(g-1) (g+j) g ' , W001° 57.(m-j) h (i-g)'

Here you should find answers to:

1. Bench commemorating how many years of Queen’s reign? = np
2. Width restriction = q metres
3. Look for a number in the name of a house (once guarded by a grizzly carving but sadly no more) = r

You now have all the data to find The Cache at:

N 51º  53.(r-1) p q', W001° 56.(r-p) n (p+q-r)'.

You will need to follow the road past the house you identified up the hill.  Cache is a lock-lid plastic carton in a camouflage cache bag close to public footpath.  Please replace carefully. Muggles discovered previous hide.

After the cache you should be able to follow a public footpath and then minor road back to Brockhampton and your start point without retracing any footsteps. If you do it right you can score bonus points by noting date (year) on the end of an isolated barn you will pass before the cache and the name of an African pioneer on the signpost to the Village Hall as you near your final destination (email me if you wish!). Hope you enjoy your walk in "The Hamptons".
