A Tale of Two Chemists

One day two chemists were heard arguing in a lab.

"I'm telling you, it's beryllium."
"It's not beryllium."
"So what do you think it is then, hydrogen?"
"Of course not, it's not a gas. Maybe it's fluorine."
"You're thinking of your dentist's appointment. It could be boron, but not fluorine."
"What about nitrogen?"
"You said it wasn't a gas."
"Maybe it's in a compound with carbon and beryllium."
"It's not a compound."
"What about lithium? Do you think it could be lithium?"
"I think my guess of hydrogen was better than that idea."
"So what then? Nitrogen?"
"You already guessed that. Look, let's call it carbon and be done with it."
"I agree. I want to get out of here and go caching."
"Yeah, there's a new puzzle series I want to check out."
"Sounds good to me."
