Indiana Spirit Quest #553 Rockville Cemetery Traditional Cache

 

This quest will bring you to the old Rockville Cemetery in Adams Township of Parke County near the town of Rockville.  This is a very old cemetery that contains graves dating back to the early 1800's.  The cemetery sits on the south edge of town crowded on the edge of a hill overlooking the Bridgeton Road.

From the records I could find on the cemetery there appears to be veterans from every American war.  I have included pictures below of some of the more interesting ones I could find.  This is the first cemetery in this area that I found a Confederate Soldier buried in.  It is also the first cemetery in the area that I found veterans from the Whiskey Insurrection.  You will find veterans from the Indian Wars buried in the Rockville Cemetery and the cemetery also contains one of our county's Revolutionary War Veterans, Jesse Duncan.  This is definitely one of the more interesting cemeteries I have been in and contains a lot of history.  Joseph A. Britton is also buried in this cemetery which was the builder of several covered bridges in this county.

The cache is not located near a grave... If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back in the ground.
