Dr. Ichiro Ohga excavated three ancient lotus fruits in Chiba-city on 30th March 1951. The fruit had been buried in the earth for more 2000 years and began to sprout in May of the same year, developing into a beautiful pink flower on 18th July of the following year.
The lotus named Oogahas was transplanted to this pond afterwards, and came to put forth a lot of flowers. The offshoots of the Ohga lotus have been transplanted in many parts of the world, as symbol of friendship and peace

1951年3月30日 千葉市内で大賀一郎博士は三つの古代ハスの実を発掘しました。
2000年以上地下に眠っていたハスの実はその年の5月発芽し翌年7月18日 淡紅色の美しい花を開きました。
大賀ハスと名づけられたそのハスは、その後この池に移植され、たくさんの花をつけるようになりました。そして大賀ハスは友情と平和の証として、世界の各地に根分けし移植されています。
