Geocache Description:

A low-key evening pub get-together event being held on Friday, 16th November 2007 primarily to provide an excuse for local geocachers to meet, geogossip, plan future excursions and socialise. If you are ‘local’, however widely you wish to define that, please come along and join us.

     Friday 16th November

7:30 until 11:00 pm

This event takes place at the The Prince of Orange in Yatton, 12 miles south of Bristol about a mile off the A370 Bristol to Weston-super-Mare road. We will gather in the skittles alley behind the bar. The pub has ample parking and there is also a further village car park just a couple of hundred yards away – see additional waypoints. Of course, the event is open to all cachers without charge though you’ll have to buy your own drinks!

It will be a very informal evening allowing you to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. If you have not been to an event before then please come along and join us – you’ll find that the others who do this strange hobby are just as crazy as you. They are certainly a very friendly bunch.

This event follows on from the earlier informal pub meet organised by Winscombe Wanderers and OMELET GRIM’s excellent Beach Barbe-cache and is an attempt to organise a local’s social meeting on a more regular basis – see firs topic below.

Geocoins & Travel Bugs
As with most events you will be able to swap Geocoins & Travel Bugs or just help them on their way. To make this process easier Mrs. wheelybarrow has kindly volunteered to collect and issue them. If you do place/retrieve a TB at the event, please make sure that you log it promptly, keeping a note of its tracking number, etc.

Things to ponder
It would be foolish of us to miss this opportunity to discuss matters of common local interest. Whilst we do not want to have an ‘agenda’ for this event it was felt that it would be helpful to list topics for general discussion that may be of interest to some of those attending – see below. To make it easier to progress these topics we will try and appoint a champion for each one. If you have a keen interest in a particular topic ensure that you catch up with its champion on the night.

If you want to add a topic please state this in your log and we’ll add it and your caching name as champion to the list.

In no particular order:

Topic Champion
Agree the frequency/dates/organiser rota for future get-togethers (volunteers to host the next ones sought; could this be you?) and consider creating a locals geocaching group Stedman Single
Arrange group outing to the Bristol channel caches Going Holm Flatholm island and/or possibly a trip to Lundy Island FollowMeChaps
Arrange group outing to the The Beast of Crimson Hill cache Mr. wheelybarrow
Think Tank' for new local caches – to try and avoid treading on one another's toes by setting caches where somebody else was just on the point of setting/publishing Stedman Single
Muster a local team for the 2008 Commando Challenge (see 2007 Challenge link or see pic’s of the gocachers team doing the 2007 event here) Commander Dick Dastardly of Dick Dastardly, Dougal, Scooby and Angelina
Contact for Travel bugs and Geocoins to help them in their travels Mrs. wheelybarrow

Expressions of Interest
If you are interested in coming to this event then it would help if you post a note on this page saying how many there will be in your party.

Getting there
Public Transport - Yatton station is on the Bristol to Weston-super-Mare line with a fairly frequent service, the pub is about three quarters of a mile walk from the station. It can be also be reached by bus.
By Car - There is ample parking to the rear of the pub plus an additional public car park 200 yards away – see Additional Waypoints. Yatton is on the B3133 about 5 miles from the M5 either junctions 20 if you are travelling from the north or 21 if you are approaching from the south.

Finally, many thanks to all those who have volunteered to help out on the night or are supporting in other ways. Aren’t geocachers great?!!!

We look forward to seeing all who can make it.

Be there or be square geographically challenged!
