Rosevillians know of the Crooked Bridge but it may not be so well
known to visitors or recent settlers of this area.
This landmark Roseville bridge is commonly known as the “crooked
bridge”. Originally a wooden bridge was built to allow passage
across the railroad from downtown Roseville to the area known as
Sierra Vista Park. 1n 1928, voters passed a $50,000 project bond to
replace it and the wooden bridge that crossed over Dry Creek at
South Lincoln Street. The current concrete structure was completed
in 1929.
Two prominent Roseville residents were responsible for its
improvement: Mayor Walter Hanisch (1883-1972) known as being one of
Roseville’s oldest continuous residents and Dr. Bradford
Woodbridge. Sierra Vista Park was renamed Woodbridge Park to
perpetuate the memory of this long-time resident. Woodbridge Park
remains today about 3 blocks east of the crooked bridge.
Use caution if you cross this heavily used bridge – its
narrow-laned curvature was not designed for today’s cars. But do
reminisce about Roseville’s grand heritage.
