The cache is hidden near, but not on, the summit of Cat Mountain. The summit boasts fine sweeping views of Lake George and the peaks around the lake. As Thomas Jefferson said, in 1791, "Lake George is, without comparison, the most beautiful water I ever saw…". The hike is about 3.4 mi each way with a 710-foot vertical rise from the trailhead and small parking area along Valley Woods Road at N43 36.219 W73 41.573.
The cache is a 30-cal ammo can made to be found and is winter friendly. The idea is to introduce you to an outstanding Adirondack peak with rewarding vistas of Lake George. This would be a great snowshoe hike in the winter. A Garmin Map60Cx (no WAAS corrections available) was used to establish this cache. Enjoy, and post your photos.
