A Drive in the Country - Glenbow Ranch is a two point multi cache with a little math at WP#1 and a match stick container final. The cache has the usual log book, cache note and pencil.
About the new Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park
Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park protects several kilometres of foothills parkland along the Bow River between the City of Calgary & the Town of Cochrane. The park provides a unique opportunity for us to showcase Alberta's rich ranching history and has the potential to provide a venue for research into grassland ecology, including invasive species, restoration of disturbed areas, and good ranching stewardship. To preserve the area's grasslands, cattle grazing will continue in the park. Glenbow Ranch is being purchased by the Alberta Government from the Harvie family. The ranch is still considered a private ranch and will be managed as such. Once the final land transfer is completed, fences and signs will be installed, and trails and day use facilities will be constructed. Until these facilities are in place (tentatively in the fall of 2007), public access into the park is not permitted.
The Government of Alberta has approved the acquisition of 3246 acres (1314 ha) of ranchland for the purchase price of $40 million along with a $27 million charitable donation tax receipt for the Harvie family, based on an independent appraisal completed late last year that placed the land value at about $67 million.
