Geocache Description:

This should be a quick cache right on Main Street in Grantville. Access is a curb and grass in a public park.

this cache is intended to tell a popular story of Grantsville city politics in the 80's. As with all small towns stray dogs were a common complaint. The local police established a simple solution to the problem. The dogs were rounded up and taken to the chief's farm on Burmester Road and shot. In the early 80's some of the local residents became upset at the practice and petitioned the city council to inact a law to use a more humane method of getting rid of the stray dogs. The city then passed a law that stray dogs must be put to sleep. some time after this four dogs were reported wandering the city and were picked up. The chief had them taken to his farm and participated in shootiing them. Consequently, in 1984 the chief was fired. The Dead Dog Saloon next door to this cache is now named for this incident.

If you have any details to add or correct, please do. If you have other stories to tell, tell them. Grantsville is a distinctive community known for its residents who to this day reflect a great work ethic and determination to maintain their rich traditions, such as the Old Folks Sociable, celebrated for more than 120 years, since Brigham Young asked all communities under his leadership to pay tribute to the elderly in their communities. Grantsville is now the only community still holding this celebration.

This cache is a tiny clear "Tweet" container, with only a log. BYOP.
