Welcome to GOLF! Traditional Cache

While trying to organize a CITO on State Trust Land, we were informed that Geocaching is NOT an authorized recreation on State Trust Land.

I will be sending out as an email to some friends as well as archiving all my caches on state land within the next two weeks.

I was directed to re-read my application for permit:
http://www.land.state.az.us/programs/natural/RecreationPermit.pdf[/red]

The Permittee shall not cause any refuse or allow any other foreign objects to be deposited on State Trust Land.

[red]Geocaching is not allowed on State Trust Land. Anyone can call the State Environmental Resources & Trespass office @ 602 542-2119 and ask to speak with Jody Latimer, Bill Webster or Ken Lamb if they have questions.
jlatimer@land.az.gov

I was told by Ken that in 2007 when he took over the web page there was no reference to Geocaching and never will be because it is covered in the application as leaving behind forien objects.

He (Ken) also tells me they have tried to contact Groundspeak many times but have not received a response.

So. I am archiving my caches with a note and it will go from there, however Groundspeak decides to act on it.[/red]

I will be picking up my containers as I can and will remove any found logs after the date of this posting.

Hopefully Groundspeak can make out some sort of an arrangement with the State Land Office, but from the talking to I got, I doubt it will happen.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located on State Trust Land.
The State Land Department has no problem with this activity, but we ask that participants know the following: A Recreation Permit is required to legally access State Trust Land. These permits are easily obtained by phoning (602) 364-ASLD. Remember to stay on established roads and avoid any destruction of the natural resources.

Epic Rides hosts an event called 24 hours in the Old Pueblo every year and while another cacher has taken time to point out and line the route in town for the El Tour de Tucson route, we felt it was time some of these desert mountain bike racers had a go.

The race starts at noon on Saturday and ends after noon on Sunday. While it is called 24 hours, the rule is the last lap must end after noon. So if your team crosses the line at 11:50am on Sunday, you get to go do one more loop. Trust me, we watched some hard core riders actually hurry to get across before noon while others rested just long enough to cross after noon.

Never would I say any of them worked less hard. Just manning a radio point for 24 hours had myself, Elmo and Drayman tired and beat.

This was my second year as a volunteer for the race and this year I was joined by my son and Elmosmelmo so we felt we had to share this with others.

The 8th Annual Kona 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo will host over 3,000 participants,
volunteers, and spectators throughout the course of this Government Issued 3-day
weekend (Presidents Day!).

The race begins on foot with riders running for the bikes that have been pre-staged, after this it is 15 miles of single and double track racing.
A few injuries were had throughout the race, many a cactus needle was removed and some mechanical failures haunted others.
We had the pleasure of meeting an Olympic medalist, a very well known and respected geocacher, students I know from the UofA as well as members from Southern Arizona Rescue while staying up all night yelling and screaming encouragement to those who pushed themselves further and further. All in all I think this was an amazing time and of course we will be back next year to push the riders up that hill....

In time we hope to show you more of the route, but we will try to make it so it is not too hard for anyone. As it is any vehicle (in the dry season) can get to within walking distance of this cache.

If you sit real quiet, close your eyes and relax.. you just may hear a voice echo across the desert ..
Welcome to Golf! Where the Hills are steep and the sand is deep!
You can do it.. Yes you can!
