Find your way to Ione Nevada and start there.
In the novel "The last days of Pompeii", there was a heroine whose name was Ione. When it became time to give the camp a name, a scholary miner came up with the name Ione. No one seems to know why. In April of 1863,the first strike was made by P.A. Haven. The site at first had only a few residence, but in only a few months there where 50 buildings and many more people. By the spring of 1864, the town had been named the county seat and had a post office and over 100 buildings, with a population of 600. New strikes in neighboring Belmont lured many residents away, and when the county seat was moved there as well, Ione began a down hill slide. By 1868 the population had sunk to 175. Cinnabar ore (mercury) had been discovered and mined till the 1930s, but when the post office closed down in 1959, Ione became a ghost town. Ione still retains it's pioneer flavor and has an abundance of interesting buildings. Today with a population of 12,plus or minus a couple, the Ore House saloon is still in operation managed by Chuck and Jody Gentry. A couple of buffalo still roam behind the old mercantile. This cache is in a 7.62mm ammo can. There is not alot of real special stuff in this cache but there is a free drink for the saloon. The ride and experience of this place is worth the trip in itself.
