Geocache Description:

On a little-known beach on Bellingham Bay. Cache name provides parking hint (consult street map). VERY limited parking. Do not drive beyond the overhead bridge...a Troll masquerading as a local homeowner is liable to bite your head off. Terrain includes a short run of steep stairs, followed by a possible beach log crossing depending on winter storm results.

Sorry hounds! First to find credit goes to Lola and the Gnome. They were the first to find this cache in it's current, new location which Rey del Roble rightly identified as poorly managed on the original cache page. Mea culpa.

The original Locust Pocus cache site succumbed to erosion and my efforts to relocate it nearby failed. So, Locust Poke-us II is born, in same container, with same log as it's parent, but quite a ways from it's original spot. Previous finders (at original location prior to 10/1/06) will get no grief from me if they record a second find in that log.

The change in location only disappoints in that many cachers may be tempted to grab it and head back up the trail. I invite folks to wander the other direction (to the south-facing beach) during their visit. The wind-exposure and currents result in a beach that is fairly unique to the immediate Bellingham area. A family with older kids (8+) who enjoy building could spend the entire day playing there and possibly not run into another person during their visit. Keep an eye on the bluffs for eagles, and remember that tide rises quickly on mud flats. If you go after this one in the dark, be sure to note the location of the trail head! It's an easy one to miss in foggy or dark conditions, but is currently easy to spot in the daylight. Cache is not far from the trailhead: N 48 46 335 W 122 31 920. It's perched above the surge line. Please take care to cover it with the abundant jetsam laying around.

Access is marginally tide-dependent. It would only be inaccessible at the highest local tides (9+ feet), or during a 7+ tide with storm surge.

This beach appears to have no official name but I have heard it referred to as "Bluff Beach", "Eagle Beach", "Black Jade Beach", and "Secret Squalicum". In the past few years, it could easily be called "Teen Trash Beach". PLEASE BE PREPARED TO CITO!!
