The given grid reference is for the start of the footpath that leads through two intermediate stages to the final location. The cache container is a plastic snap lock 1 litre container.
Parking is available on the wide grass verges at the T junction and near to the start of the footpath. Some sections of footpath are cross-field and are subject to ploughing, even when ploughed or cropped you have a right to walk them.
Proceed to a corner at 52°35.667'N, 1°18.616'E where you will find a micro which contains the reference for the next stage. Keep on the footpath! There is no need to go over the fence, it's private and dangerous.
You are at the rear of Caistor chalk pit which was once a hill whose summit was slightly higher than the point at which the footpath overlooks the quarry. The footpath once ran over this high point in a more direct route across what is now fresh air. Originally sand and gravel were extracted for building materials. When they became exhausted, extraction of the underlying chalk began, which is processed on site into agricultural lime. The flint which is a by-product is used in the restoration of old buildings. During working hours there is plenty of activity in the quarry.
In the summer months lots of sand martins are to be seen, they utilise the sandy slopes for nest sites. Rabbits abound also a coloniser of the slopes, you might even see a fox out hunting.
While at this point notice the views over the south east fringes of the City of Norwich.
A really interesting leaflet is available on the web from the Norwich Fringe Project, it details a seven mile walk. Starting from Lakenham it takes in the history of the area with notes on the flora and fauna. After finding this cache you could utilise the leaflet to extend your walk. Going on to Caistor Castle where there is another cache called Roman Treasure cunningly concealed by Dean396.
Please be discrete when extracting micros or the final, this area is becoming quite popular to muggles and dogs!
