Geocache Description:

This is part 2 in the “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” series. This cache takes you to the three sections of Steep Rock Park in Washington, CT. Although these stages are fairly far apart (as in you need to drive), the first two stages only require a minute or two, so the whole thing can still be done in less than an hour. Use caution on the steep but short final when icy !!!

This is part 2 in the “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” series. This cache takes you to the three sections of Steep Rock Park in Washington, CT.

The actor Ian Richardson, who played “Tailor” in the British miniseries “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, died unexpectedly two weeks ago (2/9/07), at the age of 73. Helen Mirren, who may have just won the best actress Oscar for “The Queen”, gives him credit for her acting motivation. He was best known in the US as the gentleman riding in the Rolls Royce, who would ask passerbys “Pardon me, but would you have any Grey Poupon”. I just had to throw that in, even though I assure you it has nothing to do with this puzzle.

The coordinates above lead you to a plaque on the side of route 202. Read the plaque and look for the full name of the main person to whom the plaque / preserve is dedicated. That person's name contains most of the letters in the word "Tailor". Take the letter in "Tailor" not in the name and convert it to a number (you know how). If that is a two digit number, then the number is XX. If that is a one digit number then add a zero in FRONT of it (i.e. 4 becomes 04) and that number is XX. There is also one number on this plaque. This number is YYY.

This first section of Steep Rock is all cached out by Moonfox, be sure to do her caches here, including the wonderful "Golden Hour", if you have not done them already.

The coordinates for stage II are N 41 39.AAA, W 073 19.BBB. AAA is 206 + YYY. BBB is 057 + XX. This is a fairly straightforward micro in the second section of Steep Rock. You can take numerous hikes here now, or you can wait until "Soldier", because you will be back here then. This micro contains the coordinates for stage III (be careful not to spill them), the final, which is a larger lock-n-lock in the third section of Steep Rock. You will come back to this third section for "Spy" in a few weeks.

Although these stages are fairly far apart (as in you need to drive), the first two stages only require a minute or two, so the whole thing can still be done in less than an hour. Use caution on the short but steep final when icy !!!

There will be a FTF prize for this cache, but it will come as part of "Spy". Have fun !!
