Geocache Description:

A small cache round Entwistle Reservoir.

“Toby’s Treasure Trail 4” is one of a series of six caches (as at February 2007, we are hoping to place more here soon, but it may be some time so don’t wait to come and do these ones!) around Entwistle Reservoir. This is one of Toby’s favourite places to come for a walk, and not just because there is often bread lying around where people have been feeding the ducks!!

The reservoir was built in 1832 and has a capacity of 726 million gallons, but more importantly there are (in our opinion) some breathtaking views. It is often busy on the path around the water, but a couple of the series have been placed to take you onto a few of the other paths, which in our experience can be a little quieter.

The main path is suitable for off road buggies and bikes, but you will have to leave the path to get some of the caches, although you should never be far from it. As a guide, when we placed the caches we had NanoJug with us in his three wheeler.

We suggest you park at the co-ordinates given below and do a circular walk of around about three miles, during which you will be able to get all of the caches, and a couple of others set by other cachers.

When placed (24 February 2007) the caches, all of which are small, contained a few toys: nothing spectacular I’m afraid, because for us, the joy is in being around this area, so signing the log book is enough.

Anyway, enjoy the trail; and if you bump into a muddy labrador / retriever cross on your way round, ask him if his name is Toby!

Specific comment about this cache: GPS reception can be a bit patchy under the trees but hopefully co-ordinates are about right. This one can be a bit of a scramble to get to, and is very boggy underfoot. May also take some finding, even with the clue: we will see. If people are struggling I shall add some spoiler photos.

ADDED 4 MARCH: If you don’t like water, mud, scrambling over fallen trees, and frustrating cache searches – please do not attempt this cache!!!! A number of people have clearly not enjoyed this one (no apologies from me for that!), others like me have found the area strangely fascinating and got stuck in looking, even if without success. I shall add a step by step guide in the very near future but until then, you have been warned!!!!

ADDED 17 MARCH: Better hint added, plus spolier photos. Still requires a bit of scrambling so you have been warned!

ADDED 12 MARCH 2011: I have confirmed that the cache is still there today so keep trying. Hints removed because it is impossible to give an accurate hint due to the number of fallen trees and muddy pools around here. Just keep trying!!
