The Cache
The cache is located along a new trail in the park along the
eastern boundary. The trail follows the course of an old pioneer
ditch. It offers great views of the reservoir to the west and some
small cliffs to the east. Mostly it goes through juniper trees and
some sagebrush. From parking to the cache is about 3/4 of a mile.
Deer, eagles, osprey, mountain lions and other wildlife can be
viewed from the trail if accessed at the right time.
To get to this cache, you will have
to start at the Down Under Day Use/ Lakeview Trailhead Parking. The
coordinates given at the top of this webpage are for the Down Under
Day Use/ Lakeview Trailhead Parking area and NOT the actual cache
location. There will be a clue taped to the back of the Lakeview
Trailhead sign, located at the trailhead parking area, that will
give you the coordinates of the cache.
Once you have the coordinates it is a short hike to the cache. The
hike from the Trailhead to the cache is approximately 3/4 of a
mile. The first section of the Trail is a gradual climb for several
hundred feet but then levels out and is very easy, even for
beginners.
The trail is accessible on foot or bike in the summer, and foot
or ski in the winter. There is a fee to enter the park. Please stay
on the trail and don't cross any fences! Please do not leave trade
items in the cache (travel bugs are okay). Just take a small
souvenir and sign the log book. Stop back often to check for other
souvenirs.
