This is a multicache and last stage is a small lock container with
log, pencil and a new presidential dollar coin. A lot of history
lies here. The first legislature of the state of Texas on March the
25th, 1846, created the County of Hopkins from land formerly in
Lamar and Nacogdoches County. Tarrant was the county seat of
Hopkins County from 1846-1868. Tarrant was named after General
Edward H. Tarrant. In 1868 the county seat was moved to Sulphur
Springs and many of the businesses and citizens moved with it. The
Old Tarrant Cemetery is about the only visible thing left at Old
Tarrant. If you stand at my cache and face north looking to your
immediate right and left you may still see evidence of the
Jefferson Trail. Goods were brout to Jefferson up the Caddo River
by ship and then up the Jefferson Trail to Tarrant. I am proud to
live at Old Tarrant Texas.
