Geocache Description:

There used to be a Tallow-Rendering plant near that metal building you see as you enter the trail south, hence the name. Former owner of the cache near here really likes this area, he's a local, and I'm trying to show off more of this area, since it's a really nice beach. This is the Elk River Wildlife Area, and its a wonderful place to take a really nice walk, fly a kite, ride a horse, have a picnic, or more. So I've arranged a nice little jaunt in 5 stages. Each stage is not far off well-established trails, all told, it's roughly just over 2 miles round trip. Some of the trek runs along the old tracks over the Elk River, and is part of the Rails-to-Trails program. Stage two is near a benchmark, so you can have a twofer. Parking is easy, but it is a very well-used trail, and there are many muggles about.
