Geocache Description:

Newby Park Ammo Box

The town of Plainfield has seen tremendous development between the town and the Indianapolis Airport as one warehouse after another has gone up. However, a large number of acres have been set aside admist all this development. It appears to be an old farm that has been allowed to go fallow. I've heard various rumours over the years that it would become a nature park. I've done a lot of birding here over the years and used to take my son fishing in the small pond on this property. In the last year the gravel road leading into the area off Stafford Road has been gated and there is still no indication the town will be making this a more formal park. It is unmarked on all maps except a Hendricks County map I picked up at the Hendricks County Chamber of Commerce in Danville. This is the only map where I've seen the area labelled as Newby Park and the gravel road as Newby Lane. I plan to contact the city and see what their plans are. This area could support several caches if access to the property was made easier and parking was provided. Until then I've placed an ammo box on the eastern edge of the property just into the woods. There is a pull-off on the developed road going into the industrial park nearby that will provide a parking spot. It's a short walk with some bushwacking required.

The caches has started with a mixture of foreign currency, foreign coins, transportation tokens, and for the kids a stuffed animal and some Little Mermaid crayons. I've also put in a couple of jcurtis55 wooden nickels and a traveling Wisconsin geocoin. A pin and pencil are there for signing the log.
