"Lake Kirby Park Clean Up - CITO 2007"
Giving Back to the Community as only Geocachers Can!
SECOND ANNUAL Greater Abilene Geocachers Association (GAGA) Cache In and Trash Out (CITO) Event

Event Times: 7:30 A.M. until 3:00 p.m. (Don't worry, the early show time and/or full day attendence is not required. Read below.) Where: The park at Lake Kirby's pavillion What is a "CITO" Event? Cache In Trash Out Day is an opportunity for geocachers to help clean up the parks and other cache-friendly places throughout the world. Through our volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources. When dis "CITO" begin? This initiative started in 2003, when geocachers around the world organized 67 cleanup events in 5 countries and 28 States. There were 1180 unique logs posted showing participation in these events, and hundreds more acted locally in recognition of this important day. The events were such a huge success that Groundspeak committed to carry on the tradition. What do we need to bring/wear? Drinking water is essential. Also, since we will be cleaning up the "thicket" area of the park around Lake Kirby, basic West Texas geocaching dress is recommended (i.e. boots or sturdy CLOSED TOED shoes, long pants/shirt, hats, and gloves). Also, bring your cell phones in case of an accident and anything that could help you gather trash/debris. What will be available for us at the event? Trash bags have been donated and there will be first aid kits on hand with the3defaus. There might be some protective vests and clean up tools provided by the City of Abilene, but that is not 100%. The park iteslf has restrooms, water, picnic tables, grill, etc. if we would like to do a potluck lunch. Why the park at Lake Kirby? Steve (of the3defaus) has been in contact with the City of Abilene Community Serives director and the City of Abilene Parks & Recreaction director and worked together with them to pick out a park for GAGA to "adopt" as their main CITO location. It was decided that the park at Lake Kirby would be the site most benefited by our involvement there. And, on a side note, Steve was overjoyed to "adopt" a location that has the potoential for a TON of geocaches to be hidden at. Is this a reoccurring event? YES! The official CITO event day falls once a year during the month of April. We are going to try and plan a CITO event in the local area at least once a quarter (every three months). Who benefits by our involvement in CITO events? EVERYONE!!! By cleaning up trash and removing dangerous debris, we will help make the park more safe and family friendly. This benefits the entire community and helps keep our little cachers safe as well. In addition, by GAGA participating in these events, our relationship with the local community and civil departments to help keep Geocaching available and legal in the Greater Abilene area. Furthermore, you will receive a personal sense of satisfaction for having given back to our local community for allowing us to participate in the activity we all enjoy... Geocaching! How long do we clean up? The event will start early Saturday morning and go on all day (or until there is nothing left to do). Of course no one is required to stay all day, but there should be at least 3 hours of time dedicated to this event sometime throughout the day. We would like to have a lunch organized by members/volunteers plus any additional breaks, etc. Please speak up if you are interested in helping out with this! Where does the trash go at the end of the day? More information will be provided on this prior to the cache date. Where can I get more information about the CITO program? Goto www.cacheintrashout.org

We would like to have as many people as possible come out and help us. Please encourage your friends and family to come on out and join in the fun. Yes, it will be fun!

If you are planning to come out, please log "Will Attend" as soon as possible so we can gather an estimate of volunteers that supplies will need to be provided for.

THANK YOU & we look forward to seeing you there!
