The cache is located on the northern outskirts of the town of Ballina in Belleek Demense. The central focal point of this beautiful forest is Belleek Castle, once the home of the Knox Gore family now used as a hotel.
The cache is a tablock lunch box. It contains log book, pen pencil and sharpener. There is a smiley bouncy ball, golf ball, one pound Egyptian pound note plus a number other smaller items.
To get to the cache from Ballina take the road signposted for Belleek at Ballina Civic offices beside Dunnes Stores. Follow along until you come to the gate lodge. Go under the arch and continue past the Belleek Forest car park (currently the abode of a travelling family) Bear right onto the avenue for Belleek Castle and park at the bridge beside the pond.
Car Parking recommended at N 54*07.810 W 009*08.558 (The Pond)
From the car park walk towards the river Moy and turn left and continue along the riverside main avenue. The forest walks are neatly laid out and named after the tree species found in the forest. Look out for the Knox Gore monument as you walk along. Find the way to Beech Avenue where the cache lies hidden. To walk to the cache and back is approx 2kms. However there are many other diversions you can take and lots of seating along the way. I have included a picture of the map of the forest which shows area on interest worth exploring.
For camping enthusiasts there is also a camping and caravaning park at Belleek.
