Copy Cats Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

seldom|seen: Well, the lions have moved on to better hunting grounds and this cache is no longer possible to solve without them.

As a summary I took my kids to see the Lion King and the PAC and they really enjoyed it. My favorite moment was the elephant coming down the isle and just clearing the balcony! It was a great show.

We also took them to the Appleton Art Center after the show closed to see some of the Award-Winning constuming. What an immagination!

This was a fun cache for the few that managed to get it done in time and I have a couple very lasting memories from it including the demise of poor Boca and the fake-out of Marc and Zuma on the hunt for FTF when Sagasu pulled a fast one and pretended to get the first waypoint. You should have seen the look in thier eyes!

Happy hunting, cats, you will be missed!

Geocache Description:

THIS IS A TEMPORARY CACHE. THE LIONS WILL BE AUCTIONED OFF, BEGINNING IN APRIL

It is not necessary to visit any of the links in the description to find the Final

Well, I suppose it was inevitable. In an effort to hype the forthcoming PAC performance of The Lion King, the city's movers and shakers in Appleton's art community came up with a new spin on an old parade, a one-off outdoor art exhibition that had its start in Zurich in 1998, then called CowParade. That pantheon of fiberglass cows grazed its way through the states in the next couple of years popping up in places like New York, Chicago, Kansas City and Houston and has now found itself reincarnated, here, in the form of lions.

Appleton's version, Lions of the Valley, features over 70 fiberglass lions and lion cubs dispersed throughout the Fox Cities. It's actually kinda fun to take a stroll down College Avenue and see some of the local artistic talent showcased on the lions. The kids especially enjoy the more fantastically painted ones, as we do have some stellar artists in this town. If you do go out with the kids, you should pace yourselves and give them a mid-tour break as there is a lot of ground to cover.

The first waypoint will take you to Elisha, commissioned by Menasha Corp and created by artist Carol Smits. While you're looking for WP1, you can soak up a little history of Menasha Corporation's beginnings as Menasha Wooden Ware Company, a barrel and pail manufacturer.

With a half-calved attempt, you might also find "Boca Bovine" of the 2001 Cow Parade in New York. It was sponsored by the Boca Raton Resort and raised $15,400 in an on-line auction to fight Parkinson's. It carries a clue to the location of another lion on safari which should take you on about a 10 minute stroll down and up the Avenue. On your way you can gaze at some of the other parading lions, eventually coming to rest at a point about two..two..two...twice the distance from waypoint two as you want to be. Sorry, a little st...st...st...udder there. Well, have a rest before you head back to pinpoint the location of WP2 which holds the coordinates for the final. It's just down the lane and you don't have to graze far to find it. Pretend you a cow, just don't park yourself at the second waypoint for too long chewing yer cud.

The final cache will contain items pertaining to cows, lions, safaris and Pasteurs.

4.12 Pretend you are hanging on to a rubber band between WP1 and Reference Point 2, and you get a slight twang. Where would WP2 be if you were in the exact center of the rubber band?

4.13 Updated the page to facilitate a few more finds of this cache before the Lions are auctioned off and the cache goes away. Dropped difficulty down to 2.5 to reflect change. WP2 might still be tricky for some, unless you know my style!
