Geocache Description:

Small TIN spontaneously put together from whatever we could round up on the way to do a bushwalk.

Looking for something to do on a St Patrick's Day arvo, we told some friends of the Aboriginal Rock Art at Yankee Hat. They were very interested to go. So away we went to show them this interesting, and VERY RARE for the ACT, display of Aboriginal rock art. Just as we approached Tharwa, we belatedly thought of putting together a cache, so ducked into the Tharwa store and found no containers, only a semi-antique type of tin. Well it would have to do. The only odds and ends they had were a packet of various old matchbooks, and some swizzel sticks and jars of buttons, so threw them in as well. Then dropped by the Tidbinbilla Visitor's Centre to grab something to make a log book, and grabbed a pen from there too. The ad-hoc mishmash of items is now the cache. This area is a Stunningly beautiful very flat bushwalk, of about 3km each way, and would make a great bike ride. It has abundant, and I mean ABUNDANT wildlife, especially the few hundred thousand roos that will only move on just as you are about to walk over the top of them. At the end of the walk, the cache is halfway between the rock art area, and an interesting Aboriginal Stick Hut, which is also well worth having a look at. NOTE: DO NOT, I really mean it, DO NOT, I'm not kidding *DO NOT* (so have you got that part - DO NOT !!!!) Go crow flies to the cache. Despite it being over 1km closer, you'll find yourself knee deep in a Marshy Bog that separates the carpark from the cache. The only way is to follow the prepared walk the Ranger's have put in with signposts, wooden boardwalks and bridges over the Marsh Areas.

UPDATE: Old tins don't weather the elements too well, and so the original tin ended up being replaced with a much more weather tolerant black (I think) snap lock container. The original tin can be seen by viewing the photos, but is no longer what you need to look for when doing this cache. But I'll leave the name and notes the same for the cache because that was once it's origin. And if you decide to ride this track, I can now assure you there is much more of an incline to this walk than it appears to have when walking. You soon find the incline when you ride it. Nice for the return leg though .... "Cooo-eee" as another famous caching bike rider would say.
