Geocache Description:

Beautiful water hole with waterfalls back in the mountains. Last 100 feet hike to the traditional cache is rocky terrain above the water hole.

PLEASE NOTE: This ammo can cache is no longer there. Over the past couple of years the cache has been removed from it's original hiding place, first by most likely a bear and twice by muggles. The area is very popular with 4x4 enthusiasts that are not geocachers. Other than the bear pulling the cache from under the boulder, someone removed it and placed it some 100 feet from the original cache site, this last time the ammo can cache and contents were taken and not returned. I am leaving the posting since the water hole is worth finding even though the ammo can cache is no longer available to find. Enjoy the spot for what it is anyway. ATTENTION: There are two routes that access this cache. Attempting to access the cache from highway 259 north of Big Cedar IS NOT recommended unless you are on an ATV or hiking. The MAIN ACCESS to this cache is via hwy 63 east of Muse, Oklahoma and is easily traveled. Look for the Billy Creek Campground access road off hwy 63. This traditional cache is located near a mountain water hole at the headwaters of a well known creek on U.S. Forest Service land. This mountain water hole is a favorite place for my grandchildren to visit and we would like to share its location with others. The water hole is a swimming spot for some locals who know of its location and is a quiet place to picnic or to spend the day exploring among the pines and rocks of the mountains. You can drive within 200 feet of the cache on a U.S Forest Service road. This cache was placed in early spring and GPS coordinates were not difficult to obtain in the forest. However, foliage may prevent a reading at the actual cache site depending on the season. If foliage is a problem, search 198 feet at a bearing of 71 degrees from the middle of the low-water slab crossing. The cache is an ammo can that is well concealed by rock and leaf cover at the base of a boulder. The overall terrain rating of 3 was given because the last 100 feet to the cache is a rocky incline above the waterhole. Access should not be overly difficult for most people, including small children with adult supervision and help. Original cache contents: Spalding base ball, laser etched porpoises in crystal block, guardian angel pin, eyeglass repair kit, package of tent stakes, waterproof camera, small copper-like bell. A notebook with pens, pencil and pencil sharpener for logging visits are included.
