Longdon Covered Bridge

Longdon Covered Bridge , Wheeling Bridge No. 19,  is named for LongdonL. Miller the original builder of the bridge, which was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

This rather long, 67 ft., 6 in.,  11 ft., 10 in. wide, Queenpost truss structure which spans the Templeton Fork of Wheeling Creek, has four wooden trestle supports under its deck of crosswise planking .

The bridges trussing is now being supported by some added bracing and it’s mortared, cut stone abutments  have been extended to form somewhat lower wingwalls.

This bridge has vertical plank siding and portals that are painted barn red, and there are rectangular windows on each side, in addition to narrow eave openings. The once, tin-covered gable roof., was also, replaced when the bridge was refurbished in 2001.

Some lovely ladies are waiting to greet you!
