This is an "eco-friendly" cache that will take you on a brief
tour of recycling centers in Medina (feel free to bring your
recyclables) and reward you with a nice hike through scenic
Schleman Nature Preserve. The cache is a 7-mile drive that ends in
a 3/4 mile round-trip hike. (There are some fun caches along the
way too, if you plan your route right!)
The coordinates for the final stage are at:
N41°06.EDA W081°55.FBC
where A thru F are the answers to the questions below:
Your quest begins at a glass recycling facility at N41°09.174
W081°51.768. Here you will find the answers to the following 2
questions:
A) Multiply the number of
collection igloos at this site by 2.
B) On a sign at this location,
look for a paragraph starting with "THIS IGLOO DROP-OFF AREA IS FOR
GLASS BOTTLES AND JARS ONLY. DO NOT LEAVE... ". Count the
remaining words in this paragraph.
Now proceed to N41°07.976 W081°53.660. This is a paper
recycling center. All kinds of paper (newspapers, magazines, books,
cardboard - basically anything that doesn't have plastic on it) is
accepted from the general public for recycling. Just drop it off in
the collection bins in the parking lot. (Public access to the
parking lot is for recycling drop-off only; do not go beyond the
gate in the parking lot.) While here, answer the following 2
questions:
C) What is the 4th digit of the
phone number (including area code) on the collection bins?
D) How many letters are in the
first word of the name of the organization that runs this
facility?
Next proceed to N41°07.970 W081°53.694. These are the
coordinates of a sign in front of a metal recycling center. You
will find the answers to the following 2 questions on the sign:
E) Which of the following metals
is NOT listed on the sign?
1. Lead
2. Copper
3. Brass
4. Aluminum
5. Iron
6. Steel
F) Which of the following items is
NOT listed on the sign?
7. Aluminum cans
8. Electric motors
9. Covered wire
That's it! Now plug your answers into the coordinates above and
go find the cache. The cache is a large, camouflaged Lock &
Lock container located within 10 feet of the trail, so there is no
need for bushwhacking! Parking is available at Schleman Nature
Preserve at the coordinates at the top of this listing. (This is a
clean park, but in keeping with the spirit of this cache, please
carry out any trash you come across. Thanks!)
Caution: There is some poison ivy in the cache
area.
