Buried in Oregon's coast range, about 10 miles south of Mapleton,
stands an 11+ foot diameter Douglas-Fir tree.
You can find this beauty right along the
North Fork Smith River # 1351 . It is a moderate hike, and
worth every step. You will pass through some incredibly beautiful
and majestic forest while listening to the North Fork Smith River
babble below. There are a couple other geocaches in the area...
"TOO TOO TUNIES' by Thunder N Rain w/lt. lightning bolt and the
incredible
3 Falls Down - 1 Hike Up! by Thunder N Rain . Make sure you
check out
Kentucky Falls # 1376 it has some good directions to that
trailhead if you decide to start your journey there. The trails
connect so dont worry about which end you start at.
Your journey will be from 6-12 miles roundtrip, depending on
which way you decide to go. You could also carpool and drop a
vechicle at either trailhead and make a one-way trip.
It can be difficult to find your way in here, so we left a
couple roadside caches that will help you make the correct
decisions at key intersections.
