From Route 842 (N Main St) in Beacon Falls, go over the steel
trestle bridge. Turn right on Lopus Rd, go up the hill, turn right
again onto Cold Springs Rd. Soon, it becomes an unpaved road that
runs along the railroad tracks and Naugatuck River. Park in the lot
just past the small bridge at the intersection of Cold Springs Road
and Black Forest Road N41°27.387 W073°03.734
From the parking lot, hike up the steep Black Forest Road to the
edge of Fangorn at N41°27.534 W073°03.935
From here, you should be able to follow the unmarked trail to
the final. There is no need to move any camo to retrieve this
Palantir. And you would hurt yourself trying.
From the top of Orthanc, you can see Barad-Dûr at bearing 219°
and 1380 feet.
