Geocache Description:

This is our first cache hide and we decided to hide it in honor of a very special Girl Scout, who is also a cacher!

This cache is hidden in the woods of Baker Park in USC and was hidden to honor a special Girl Scout in our area...you may know her as Ruffledostrich. Miss Katie, as we call her, is everything a Girl Scout should be and she has a great talent- she sings! Many in the scouting world know her only as the song lady because she always sings songs with all of the scouts she visits. We think she is awesome and that is why we decided to hide our first cache in her honor.

Last year Miss Katie was nominated and awarded the Honor Pin by the Girl Scouts Trillium Council. This award recognizes an adult member who has performed extraordinary service to two or more Service Units or regions, thereby contributing to the overall success of the Council goals. She was very surprised to be given this pin, but she definitely deserved it! She participates in activities for several of the local communities including, but not limited to, USC, Bethel Park, Firefly and Mount Lebo.

Now on to the cache...the cache is hidden off of the nature trail that begins just behind the sandbox at Baker Park. You can either walk all the way on the trail before venturing off for the last 60' or you can veer off earlier depending. At certain times of the year there may be a lot of thorns, so be prepared. From the Baker playground lot, it is approximately a tenth of a mile, but there will be a bit of an upward slope to get back to the car. The cache is a 50cal ammo can full of trades including lots of patches and pins, CITO bags, first aid kits, and a variety of other things including several TBs. There is a GS themed FTF prize (labeled) and an activated FTF traveling coin (in with the logbook). Also, there is a special package for the bird herself (also labeled) that includes a a special TB that wants to meet her. Please make sure that the stuffed TB stays in the cache for her!!! After finding our cache, continue on the trail and you can try to find Wedding Cachers, a traditional cache, and Escape from Mayview, a multi cache. If you have the time, definitely try all 3!

NOTE to the GEODOGS: depending on how you approach this, dogs are allowed. If you approach via Boyce-Mayview near the REEC or from other locations for a longer hike, I believe dogs are allowed. If you come from Baker Park though, I am not completely sure, but I know I have seen dogs there before. I really don't think there should be any issues, but don't quote me.
