Geocache Description:

Dun an Oir

The final resting place of The Campbell's of Glendaruel.

I am trying to gain some history on those buried in The Campbell Mausoleum at Glendaruel. So far I have only managed to discover one of the women buried there was the wife of John Robert Hume, the surgeon to the Duke of Wellington .

John Robert Hume MD LRCP FRCP DCL CB (1781?-1857), physician, was born in Renfrewshire and studied medicine in Glasgow and Edinburgh. He entered the medical service of the army, serving in the Peninsula. Hume was awarded an MD from St. Andrew's University in 1816 and became a licentiate of the College of Physicians in 1819. He became the surgeon to the Duke of Wellington and was awarded the DCL from Oxford University in 1834. He became a Fellow of the College of Physicians in 1836 and was awarded the CB in 1850.

Camping and Caravaning is available close by on a family run site at Glendaruel Caravan & Camping Park
