Geocache Description:

Located at the historic Five Mile House (located five miles South of the court house on Route 130 and the Westfield road.

Been wanting to put a cache here for a long time, but it took me awhile to make connections with the Five Mile House Board and get permission. You can visit the web site and learn more about it's interesting history. I copied the following from the web site: This historic landmark is located on Route 130 South of Charleston. Though primarily a residence, it also filled other needs in its early days. David Kent Coy notes that it served as “an inn or tavern” for weary travelers. As it was convenient to three roads, it was likely a stagecoach stop as well. In the days when Lincoln rode the circuit (1847-1857), the house was a well-known stopover site as “There was a well there with good drinking water and the owner kept a blacksmith’s forge for making horseshoes, among other things, such as tool and cooking pots.” (see Coy, p.29). Since Lincoln traveled by there often, he probably stopped to water his horse and seek refreshment himself.

Contents are a drunken donkey TB, a "sproing" door stop, a Canadian quarter, a golf ball and log book and pencil. You won't even need your GPS if you follow the hint...but that's your choice. The historic place has no posted hours yet, but I think they intend to in the near future. Cache is placed by permission
