Geocache Description:

This is either a tribute to my soon to be ex-place of employment or a way of dealing with my situation. After 30+ years in Oshkosh, Candle Corporation of America is closing the facility. I enjoyed 8 of those years working with a great bunch of people and will miss them dearly.

The cache is placed in a public boat landing next to the building that was originally the city of Oshkosh electric trolly system (there are still railroad tracks in the basement!) then later it was used by priests to start Victory Lite, which later was Lenox Candles and then CCA.

Continuing with Oshkosh candle history, 2 blocks west you'll find a vacant lot, formerly Paragon Wax who did supply CCA when it had plants in town. In the early 90's that burned down causing a evacuation of several blocks as the wax burned for a long time. I was living 1 block from the evacuation zone but it still stunk. It was winter and firemen were freezing in place as the knelt to pump water on the fire.

There is a assisted living facility behind you with a few big windows, please be wary of them. Maybe bring a boat to be less conspicuous! :>

Update 9/23/2007: A huge thanks to Kweejee for replacing the container and serving as local contact so that this hide could live on as I light the employment flame elsewhere!
