Geocache Description:

Looking for a wander into mountain country to find a cache?

The cache is at the listed coordinates, and the cache container is just big enough to hold the logbook - there is no room for trading items, unless they are no bigger than a credit card. Remember to bring your own pen.

To reach this cache, you will have to walk about 2 hours 45min (each way) into mountain country. You should carry standard tramping gear all year round, including good boots, warm clothing and wet-weather parka. You may even bring your sleepingbag and food, and stay the night. If staying overnight, it is best to park your car down at the Bealey Pub.
The route is a marked trail, with a bush track from the start at the main road, and marker poles along the trail across the open grassy flats (white poles with orange tops). There is a section of thistles and lupin in the middle - just follow the waypoints with your GPS to find the easy way through. Between WP16 and WP17, it is best to use the riverbed, as long as the river is not in flood – otherwise, find your way through the bush and scrub.
There is also a short bush track over the last section before you reach the cache site, although it is usually much quicker and easier to use the riverbed for this section. If the main river is cutting in at this point or in flood, do not try crossing it – just use the bush track. The rough bush track takes 15 – 20 minutes, while the riverbed takes 5 – 10 minutes.

The following waypoints, which are close to trail marker poles, describe the route:
