One for the train enthusiasts and history buffs.
On November 2 1880 the Queensland parliament approved the construction of a branch line of the Brisbane Ipswich railway from Ipswich to Dugandan in Boonah. When the first sod was turned in 1886 the Hon W. Miles, minister for Public Works was presented, by the navvies and labourers, with a silver spade and barrow. Three months before the official opening, the final spile was driven by Miss Bashford, daughter of the contractor. The railway was a boon for the town of Boonah, then known as Blumbergville. These caches celebrate the Boonah Branch line which operated until the 1960’s. When the railway closed the original station was relocated to the show grounds where it is now a pavillion and grandstand.
