Maia's Meteoric Cache Multi-Cache
moon&son: Because of removal of the display that was the start of this cache, and continued flooding of the site during the high waters of the winter months, I've decided to archive this cache. Perhaps a new one will take its place under the right conditions.

A fairly simple multi-stage find with a bit of local history tossed into the mix. I've recently recalculated the math for the cache and hopefully this will make the find a little easier.
This is our first cache and was inspired by a confluence of events when we read a local newspaper article that mentioned the well known Willamette Meteorite, now residing in the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. However, we found out that this 15 1/2 ton meteorite, the largest ever found in the United States, was discovered and began its not so humble journey to NYC very near where we used to walk our dog, Maia, almost daily.
The coordinates above will take you to a local historical marker that most people drive right by without notice. Take a look at this marker and read it carefully so you can answer the questions below to find the next coordinates and the cache at the site near where the Willamette Meteorite, known as "Tomonowos" or "The Heavenly Visitor" by the local Native Americans, was found in 1902. The local parks department is soon to place some displays regarding the Willamette Meteorite in the meadow near this cache. Go explore and learn about it!
Use the coordinates for this first site to find the cache which is a short drive, bike ride, or long walk from here. Remember, use the historic marker to help you... New latitude = 45 degrees and 20.XXX To find the "XXX" you'll need the original coordinates and add them to the following equation; Count the letters in the second line multiply this by the number of letters of the fourth line and then add the total of letters in the last line minus 2. Add this answer to the original decimal coordinates. You should now have "XXX" to finish the latitude.
To find the new longitude keep the original 122 degrees and call the rest "XX.XXX". Find the year this marker was erected. Divide that number by 1,000. Next, multiply the number of numbers and letters in the fifth line by the number of numbers and letters in the sixth line. Subtract 45 from this product and then divide this total by 1,000. Subtract this sum from the number from the marker (the year) and you get "Y.YYY" Now, add this number to the "XX.XXX" from the original longitude and you should have the new longitude data.
The cache is a small dark green plastic army surplus container that has just enough room for a small logbook and small goodies. Please place the snap top back on firmly when you are done. It works fine when it is capped properly so take the time to do that, thanks. Also noticed some stinging nettles nearby and got "zapped" by some. Beware! Happy hunting and watch for falling items from the heavens as well as "muggles", two and four legged, that might also be enjoying a walk through this site!
This cache was recently checked and enabled on August 18th, 2014 and seems to be right where it should be and in excellent shape. Happy hunting!
