Geocache Description:

A nice walk in the Cockaponset State Forest along the blue-blazed Mattabesset Trail ending at an amazing rock.

I have lived nearby Eagle's Beak for a while, yet had never visited it, until now! A sheer dropoff, so keep the little ones away from the edge if they accompany you. That said, if you go near the edge and look back at the rock, you will discover how it got its name. Decent views of the countryside as well.

Finding parking is half the battle on this one. I will give the recommended parking area from the Connecticut Walk Book as a waypoint below. Access is from Bartholomew Road in Middletown or from Brainard Road in Haddam. If you have a 4x4, you can go out Haddam Quarter Road in Durham, continue on to Oxbow Road (or trail as it were) to the pullout just past the powerlines and use trail/bushwhack in if you so choose. (Oxbow Road actually goes through to Brainard Hill Road, but is one of those class 4, unmaintained roads.)

The coordinates given are for the cache, just off the blue trail. I gave the coordinates for Eagle's Beak as a reference point below. The blue trail will take you right by it.
