This is a multistage cache placed in celebration of my daughter's
birthday and her love of this park. Follow above link, for more
information about the park and directions. The center piece of the
park is a Newport like mansion (the result of Mr. Harkness' silent
partnership with John D. Rockefeller in the Standard Oil
Corporation) with sprawling lawns affording views of the sound
which invite picnics and kite flying. There are formal gardens and
a somewhat secluded rock garden.
At the above coordinates, you will find some writing. Who is
asking the question? Add up the numeric value of the first and last
letter of that name (where A=1, B=2 etc.) plus 2 and add the sum to
the latitude. When was the question asked? Find the last digit in
the date and multiply times 50. Add that to the longitude.
I used the Clay Jar method for rating. While the terrain is
mostly flat, you are pretty exposed throughout the cache. So, on
colder days, the length of time outside might be a lot for kids.
There is some brush at the final and that area can be muddy in the
spring (as we found when placing it!) I do not get poison Ivy and
would not know it if it was in my salad
On the plus side, flushed 6 Deer
when at the final for placement! The final is a 50 cal ammo
can. There is a prize for the FTF and smaller prizes for the
STF and TFT. Parking is in a lot at N 41 18.199 W 72
06.903.
NO NEED TO VENTURE ONTO DUNES or other restricted areas.
Congrats to mc97 for FTF!
